Starship Troopers (1997)
Bugs! Bugs!! And more Bugs!!! Guess our battle with them is a never-ending one. Starship Troopers is simply the us upping the ante against Alien Bugs. A quick question? Why do people that bear the name Rico always get promotions in battles against aliens?
Well, this 1997 military scifi satire follows the life of Johnny Rico and his ‘heroic’ life or not in the Mobile Infantry- a unit tasked with winning an insectoid species- the Arachnids in an interstellar war. This movie mirrors issues like citizenship by military service, social experiments and also the dynamic nature of policies. Is this one of the best Sci-Fi movies of the last century? Want to feel the rush of adrenaline as a couch potato? See the Starship Troopers movie.
The Lobster (2015)
There’s a general feeling that the year 2020 is a hard year. Prolly because of the Corona Pandemic. What if you lived in a society where you had to find a mate within 45 days or risk being transformed into an animal of your choosing? Love must be really difficult to find… Mike from the Trend Parlour kept wondering what animal he would choose to be should he fail to beat the deadline. I’m pretty sure I ain’t a Lemur. Lol!
Director Yorgos Lanthimos blew us with this dystopian dark humor Scifi. This movie will keep you laughing till Ol’ Joe gives you broccolis for the 10th time. Trust me, receiving the same item many times from the same person can be really funny.
The Lobster follows a character named David who must find a partner within 45 days or risk turning to an animal or even worse- he could be hunted as game in the forest where singles hide. His brother has already been turned to a dog.
According to this Scifi, it is a crime to be single. In the same forest exists a society of singles who abhor Romance. For the singles, it is a crime to date. Talk of a Catch-22 Scenario. The only advice I’d give you while watching this Sci-Fi is this- Laugh with Caution! You don’t want your neighbors calling the cops on you for disturbance of public Peace. Lol!
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (2009)
Never seen a movie that uses the phrase ‘Mama Mia!’ better than this animation. Yes! This is the only animation on this Trend Parlour list. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs follows Flint a young inventor searching for the ultimate invention. Wait for it… He finally creates a device that makes food rain from the sky.
How can inventing food be a problem for mankind? You just have to check this animation out. Great plot twists and cliffhangers can be difficult to find in animations of this century. This Sci-fi animation is a must-watch. And Yup! Don’t choke on your grapes (winks)
What’s the link between Sci-Fis and balls? Somehow Something must have a ‘ball’ attached somewhere. Spaceballs is a sci-fi comedic classic.
To think that John Candy, Mell Brookes, Joan Rivers, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman and other popular stars featured in this movie set. That’s like Leornardo Di’Caprio, Chris Evans, Will Smith, Beyonce, Liam Helmsworth, Scarllet Johansson, Robert Downing Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Keanu Reeves featuring in the same movie.
It is an unpardonable oversight to end 2020 without watching this. Spaceballs is about a rescue mission. Yes! A princess is involved. And No! Not every villain lacks a good sense of humor. Watch this best Sci-fi movies on Netflix to understand better. Thank me later.
Bird Box (2018)
Roddy Ricch’s The Box song took the charts by storm in 2019. The Scifi Bird Box is indeed a visionary one.
No one saw this Corona pandemic coming. At least in the year 2018. Bird Box showed us to some extent how many react to phenomena. Human nature is indeed dynamic. Remember the public’s reaction when masks, lockdown, and the like were instituted? We can now relate better to its unique storyline and its endless memes.
A group of survivors have to reach their destination but they have to do this without opening their eyes. Easy you may say! Watching this SciFi could surprise you.
How the heck does a movie with only 5 characters and 3 settings win so many awards (the Academy award too) or even enter the roll call of the best Sci-fi movies? Artificial Intelligence AI is indeed big story. Still don’t get my point? Just watch Ex-Machina.
See You Yesterday (2019)
Time Travel is a really fascinating concept. We at some point yearn to bring back those we have lost. It’s just instincts. How far can you go in bringing your dead bro back to life especially when he was shot by the cops? Join C.J Walker in her quest to do that.
Are there really consequences to Time distortion? There’s only one way of finding out! Grab your remotes lads…
District 9 (2009)
District 9 is one Sci-Fi we always believed happened. Its rendition of themes like Humanity, Xenophobia, and Social Segregation is so apt.
Picture humans as the oppressors of Aliens for one second. Makes sense? Not at all. You just have to follow this story that is set in South Africa in an alternate timeline. Great fight sequence and picture quality.
Director Bong Joon-Ho never stops to amaze Sci-Fi movie lovers. Dude used a train and created a whole story out of it.
A sizable portion of mankind have been wiped by a climatic phenomenom. Few survivors are on board a luxury train ploughing through the ice. The elite love their lives and the poorest residents on the train don’t mind swapping theirs. Fun! Sick! And Wild is what you get from this.
There you have it. The Best Sci-fi movies you can’t stop rewatching. 2020 might just be the best year yet. All you need is new Energy and a touch of Imagination. Good thing is all these are available on Netflix. We hope you enjoyed our picks. Catch you on the next special.
